Wall units, window seats and built-ins for Simi Valley
Entertainment centers, bookcases around the fireplace, window seats and display shelving for Simi Valley family rooms and bedrooms, sized to the wall and made in our Newbury Park shop.
A window seat we built in Simi Valley
One of our Simi Valley projects is a window seat with drawers, a drawer tower beside it and open shelves, pictured below. It turns the space under a window into storage and a place to sit, and it is a good reminder that a built-in does not have to fill a whole wall.
Window seats suit bedrooms, kids’ rooms, dens and landings, and they pair well with a bookcase or a desk alongside. For a desk wall, see home offices in Simi Valley.
Family rooms, older and newer
In many of Simi Valley’s 1960s and 1970s tract homes, the family room is arranged around a fireplace with plain wall on each side. Bookcases or cabinets with shelving on both sides of the firebox, tied together by a mantel, make that wall the focus of the room without moving anything structural.
Great rooms in newer neighborhoods such as Wood Ranch and Big Sky tend to be bigger and more open, so a full entertainment center or wall unit, with base cabinets, shelving towers and an opening for the TV, can carry the storage for the whole room.

Wall units and entertainment centers
The simplest version is a low cabinet run under a wall-mounted screen with a few floating shelves; the fullest runs wall to wall with base cabinets, shelving towers and display niches. Media components can live behind doors, and we work out outlet and cable locations with your electrician during design so cords stay out of sight.
We size the TV opening around the screen you own or plan to buy, and the 3D drawing shows shelf spacing and proportions before we build.

Matched to the room
A built-in should look like it came with the house. We scribe the cabinets to the floor, walls and ceiling, and the finish can match your existing trim or contrast with it. Cabinet boxes are hardwood plywood, doors and drawer fronts come from Corona Millworks, and doors and drawers close on Blum soft-close hardware, with push-to-open TIP-ON fronts if you would rather have no pulls. See what goes into our cabinets.
From consultation to install
We start with a free in-home consultation in Simi Valley to measure the wall and talk through how you use the room. You review the 3D design and adjust it until it is right; then the built-in is made to order in our shop at 817 Mitchell Rd Ste 205, Newbury Park, and we install it. Smaller built-ins typically install in 1–2 days, followed by finishing work.
There is no minimum job size, so a single bookcase or window seat is welcome. Planning a closet too? See custom closets in Simi Valley.

Questions about your project
Can you build a window seat with storage?
Yes. In a Simi Valley home we built a window seat with drawers, a drawer tower and open shelves. A seat can have drawers below and a bookcase or desk alongside.
Can you add built-ins around our existing fireplace?
Yes. Mantels and fireplace surrounds are part of our custom millwork, and we often build cabinets and shelving on both sides of the fireplace.
Can the TV components and cables be hidden?
Yes. Components can sit behind cabinet doors, and we coordinate outlet and cable locations with your electrician during design.
Will the built-in match our trim?
It can. Everything is built to order, so the finish can match your existing trim or contrast with it.
How long does installation take?
Smaller built-ins typically take 1–2 days to install, followed by finishing work.
