Custom kitchen cabinets for Malibu homes
Kitchen cabinetry for Malibu rebuilds and remodels, planned from your plans or measured in your home, built to order in our Newbury Park shop and installed when the house is ready.
Planning a kitchen for a Malibu rebuild
If you are rebuilding after the recent fires, the kitchen can be designed long before the house is finished. Conejo Woodworks plans your cabinets from your architect’s plans, shows you the kitchen in 3D design software, builds every cabinet to order in our shop at 817 Mitchell Rd Ste 205 in Newbury Park, and installs it once the house is ready.
Starting from drawings means appliance sizes, the hood and the island can be settled while walls and outlets are still easy to move.
Working with your builder’s schedule
A rebuild involves many trades, and cabinetry is one piece of a longer schedule. We work alongside your general contractor, designer and other trades, and permits stay with your general contractor.
Most kitchens take 4–8 weeks from design approval to installation, and installing the cabinets usually takes 4–5 days, followed by finishing work. Ask your contractor when the walls and floors will be ready and we can work back from that date, so design is approved and the cabinets are built when the house needs them.

Salt air and kitchen finishes
A kitchen near the ocean deals with salt air, humidity and strong light off the water. As general guidance, hardware with a corrosion-resistant finish such as stainless steel tends to hold up better near the coast than lightly plated finishes, and doors and panels that are sealed on every face and edge give moisture fewer places to get in.
Large windows facing the view bring in a lot of sun, which can change some wood tones and paint colors over time. We talk through those choices during design.
From the beach to the canyons
Malibu runs along roughly 21 miles of coastline beside Pacific Coast Highway, from the Ventura County line toward Pacific Palisades. Kitchens in beach houses along PCH and in the Colony are often compact and open to the view, while homes on the bluffs at Point Dume, near Zuma, or up Malibu Canyon and in the Santa Monica Mountains usually have more room for an island and a full pantry wall.
From our Newbury Park shop we reach Malibu over the mountains on Kanan Dume Road or Malibu Canyon Road.
Doors, boxes and hardware
Our cabinet boxes are Columbia Forest Products hardwood plywood, mostly prefinished white maple. Doors and drawer fronts come from Corona Millworks in shaker, five-piece and slab styles, in paint- and stain-grade woods, and for a modern kitchen we can use Lioher slab fronts in high-gloss, super-matte or textured woodgrain, including handle-free doors with an integrated finger pull.
Hinges and runners are Blum soft-close hardware. Inside the cabinets we can add base and spice pull-outs, pull-out waste containers, Lazy Susans, tip-out trays, knife blocks and mixer lifts. See what goes into our cabinets.

Questions about your project
Can you design kitchen cabinets from our architect’s plans for a Malibu rebuild?
Yes. We can plan your kitchen from your architect’s plans, build the cabinets to order in our Newbury Park shop and install them once the house is ready.
When should we bring you into a rebuild?
Early is best. Most kitchens take 4–8 weeks from design approval to installation, so starting design while the house is being built lets the cabinets be ready when your contractor needs them.
What finishes and hardware work near the ocean?
Salt air, sun and humidity are part of coastal living, so we talk through finish and hardware options during design. As general guidance, corrosion-resistant hardware and fully sealed finishes tend to hold up better near the coast.
Who handles permits?
Permits are handled by your general contractor or another party; they are not part of Conejo Woodworks’ scope.
