Media walls, wall units and built-ins in Malibu
Media walls, entertainment centers, wall units, bookcases and fireplace surrounds for Malibu living rooms, designed in 3D and built to order in our Newbury Park shop.
Media walls, wall units and entertainment centers
A media wall brings the TV, speakers, components and storage into one piece of cabinetry, often around a fireplace. Base cabinets hide the electronics behind doors, open or lit shelves carry books and display pieces above, and the whole wall is scribed to the floor, walls and ceiling so it reads as part of the house.
Conejo Woodworks designs every built-in in 3D design software, builds it to order in our Newbury Park shop and installs it in your home.
Easier to plan while the walls are on paper
If your Malibu home is being rebuilt after the recent fires, a media wall is one of the easiest pieces to get right early. We can plan your built-ins from your architect’s plans, then build them to order and install them once the house is ready.
Settling the TV size, the fireplace and any recessed niche during design gives your electrician time to place outlets and cable runs where the cabinetry needs them. We coordinate those locations with your electrician and work alongside your contractor.

Rooms that face the ocean
In many Malibu homes the best wall in the living room is glass, looking out toward the water, so the built-ins go on the walls around it. A low console under a window keeps the view open, while a full-height wall unit on a side wall carries the storage.
Homes on the bluffs at Point Dume, near Zuma Beach, in the Serra Retreat area or up the canyons into the Santa Monica Mountains often have dens and studies that suit a library wall or a window seat as well.
Finishes for coastal rooms
Salt air, sun and humidity are part of coastal living. As general guidance, hardwood plywood boxes stay stable as humidity changes, finishes sealed on every face help limit moisture, and corrosion-resistant hardware such as stainless steel tends to hold up near the coast. Shelves facing big windows also get a lot of sun, which can shift some wood tones over time.
We talk through those choices during design, along with whether the built-in should match your trim or contrast with it.
Built for the room it lives in
Built-ins are scribed to the floor, walls and ceiling so they look like part of the house, and the finish can match your trim or contrast with it. Boxes are hardwood plywood, doors come from Corona Millworks, and doors and drawers close on Blum soft-close hardware, with push-to-open TIP-ON fronts where you want a clean face.
